Glass Recycling In West Valley City
Enjoy the convenience of curbside residential glass recycling!
Tired of throwing glass in the trash when you know it could be recycled? Wish you had an easy way to recycle glass bottles and jars in West Valley City? Momentum Recycling has got you covered with our convenient curbside glass collection service that picks up from your home monthly.
Residential curbside glass recycling is a convenient service that allows West Valley City residents to recycle glass bottles and jars right from their homes. Momentum Recycling collects glass separately from other recyclables to ensure it’s properly processed and recycled. This service helps divert valuable glass materials from landfills and supports local recycling efforts.
Glass is collected in a dedicated container to prevent mixing with other materials. This prevents contamination and ensures over 90% of collected glass is successfully recycled.
Our service provides once-a-month collection from your home. You’ll receive reminders via email or text before your scheduled pickup day.
All colors of glass bottles and jars are accepted together. No need to separate by color – we handle that at our processing facility.
The curbside glass recycling service is optional for West Valley City residents. The monthly cost is conveniently added to your water bill. Momentum Recycling provides a 35-gallon container specifically for glass recyclables.
Glass is collected once per month on a designated day based on your location. We send reminder notifications via email or text. Find your collection day using our interactive map or PDF route guide.
Place your glass recycling container at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day. Position the container at least three feet away from vehicles or other objects. Do not over ll the container—the lid must close completely.

Recycling glass through our program offers numerous advantages:
Glass can be recycled endlessly with no loss in quality. About 80% of recovered glass containers become new glass bottles.
Making products from recycled glass consumes 40% less energy than using raw materials. This is because cullet melts at a much lower temperature.
Glass recycling creates 8-10 jobs compared to just 1 job if the glass is sent to a landfill. This boosts our local economy.
For every ton of glass recycled, over a ton of natural resources are conserved, including 1,300 pounds of sand, 410 pounds of soda ash, 380 pounds of limestone, and 160 pounds of feldspar.
For every six tons of recycled container glass used, a ton of carbon dioxide emissions is prevented.
By diverting glass from landfills, we extend their useful life and help keep waste disposal costs lower for everyone.
Momentum Recycling uses a sophisticated process to turn your glass into valuable materials:
Glass from curbside bins is collected and brought to our facility. The first sorting stations remove contaminants like ceramics, light bulbs, and mirrors.

A: Glass requires special handling for several important reasons:
A: Yes! Broken glass is perfectly acceptable for recycling. In fact, breaking glass is part of our recycling process. Just make sure all glass pieces are safely contained inside your recycling bin.
For successful collection, please follow these guidelines:
Q: Can broken glass be recycled?
A: Absolutely! Broken glass is perfectly acceptable. In fact, our glass recycling facility breaks glass down into pieces so small it looks and feels like sand (called cullet).
Q: Do I have to rinse or remove labels?
A: No. Although it may be beneficial for your work space to avoid the smells that sometimes accompany food-related waste, it is not necessary to spend time washing your recyclables. By not washing empty recyclable containers, we can all preserve one of the most precious natural resources: water.
Q: What types of glass are NOT accepted?
A: Most glass at your organization is recyclable; however, there are some materials that we cannot accept. Here are the materials that are NOT acceptable:

Q: Why can’t glass go in the mixed recycling?
A: Our local Material Recycling Facility (MRF) is unable to source-separate and process glass at their facility. Glass is very difficult to remove once the small shards find their way into the mixed recyclables (think needles in a haystack such as glass shards embedded in cardboard) – which then devalues the recycled commodities later when resold into the market. Glass also breaks fairly easily, and tends to then become very sharp, posing a significant risk to the person that handles and/or sorts the material. Lastly, when source-separated, more glass is captured in the process and able to be recycled.
Q: Where does the glass go?
A: We bring the glass back to our Salt Lake City glass recycling facility where it is processed into cullet, after which it is used for things like fiberglass insulation, sandblasting, asphalt strengthening, and glass products (learn more about the process).
Q: Is there a contract?
A: No. The service is month-to-month, so you only need to provide a thirty (30) day notice.
Q: How do I pay for services?
A: When you signup, you provide your credit card payment information that will then be charged the $8.50/month service fee each month. Since we are unable to accept any other payment method (i.e. check. PayPal, etc.), only credit card payments are currently accepted. You can view the date of your next recurring payment by logging in to your account.
Q: Can I have two (2) bins?
A: Yes – you can add a 2nd bin for an additional $6.00/month and a one-time 25.00 activation fee. To add a bin to your account, please contact us.
Q: Can I put my service on seasonal hold?
A: Yes, you can put your account on a temporary hold up to four (4) months. Once you restart service, you will be charged a one-time fifteen ($15.00) reactivation fee. Please contact us to put your account on a temporary hold.
Q: How do I cancel service?
A: To cancel your service, login to your account and click on My Services in the menu on the left. You will see a blue “Cancel” button to cancel your service. We will then contact you via email about when to place your bin on the curb for removal.
