Each month, Fox 13 and Smith’s Food and Drug award local individuals and companies for efforts on reducing food waste in the community with the Zero Hunger, Zero Waste Award. For the past twelve years, Momentum Recycling has collected food waste from local businesses to convert food waste to energy. These efforts currently help to save nearly 300 tons of food waste from the landfill each month. Momentum Recycling was honored to be presented with the Zero Hunger, Zero Waste Award.

The interview highlights Momentum Recycling’s role in collecting food waste from customers at grocery stores, restaurants, schools, offices and other businesses. Tracey Ames, Associate Communications Manager for Smith’s Food and Drug, explained how they are so proud of the work Momentum Recycling is doing in our community. As we here at Momentum Recycling continue to do our part for the community, we are extremely grateful for Tracey’s kind words on behalf of Smith’s Food and Drug.

In the video, you can see one of our specially designed trucks in operation collecting food waste from the Smith’s Food and Drug location in Woods Cross, Utah. This truck services customers all along the Wasatch Front. Customers simply fill the provided bin (carts or dumpsters available) with food scraps, including both packaged & unpackaged food. The food waste is then transported to the Wasatch Resource Recovery facility where it is processed.

Thank you to our community, Smith’s Food and Drug, Fox 13 News, Wasatch Resource Recovery, and our incredible team here at Momentum Recycling for helping us move Utah towards zero waste!
