Recycle Glass

Living in North Salt Lake and frustrated by limited glass recycling options? You’re not alone. While you want to make environmentally responsible choices, throwing glass bottles and jars in the trash feels wrong—because it is. That glass could live forever in a landfill instead of becoming something useful again.

At Momentum Recycling, we understand this frustration. Since 2008, we’ve been helping residents turn their glass waste into valuable resources right here in Utah. Our state-of-the-art facility—the only one of its kind in the Intermountain West—transforms your discarded glass into materials for fiberglass insulation, sandblasting media, and concrete production.

Whether you choose our convenient monthly curbside pickup or visit one of our nearby drop-off locations, we make glass recycling simple. Ready to align your actions with your values? Let’s turn your glass waste into community resources.

How does it work?

Getting started is simple: sign up online or call us to receive your dedicated glass recycling bin. Place glass containers directly in the bin throughout the month—bottles, jars, all colors accepted. On your scheduled pickup day, set your bin curbside like regular trash collection. We’ll empty it and return it for next month. Our mobile app sends pickup reminders so you never miss collection day.

3 Benefits to Curbside Glass Recycling

Economic Benefits

Glass recycling creates 8-10 local jobs compared to just one worker if glass goes to landfills. Your participation supports Utah’s economy by keeping materials in-state for processing and manufacturing. Recycling glass uses 40% less energy than creating new glass from raw materials. Plus, you’re helping extend landfill life, reducing disposal costs and freeing community resources for other opportunities like parks and infrastructure improvements.

Community Benefits

North Salt Lake and Davis County benefits from reduced waste hauling through neighborhoods near the beautiful Orchard Community Garden and Legacy Parkway Trail. Your participation sets a positive example for neighbors while supporting local green jobs and closing the waste loop. Glass recycling keeps heavy trucks off local roads, reducing wear and noise pollution around family-friendly areas, helping North Salt Lake maintain its reputation as an environmentally conscious community.

Environmental Benefits

Every ton of recycled glass conserves over a ton of natural resources, including 1,300 pounds of sand, 410 pounds of limestone, and reduces mining pollution. Glass gives old materials new life through endless recycling without quality loss. For every six tons recycled, one ton of carbon dioxide emissions is prevented, reducing air pollution. Your monthly bin aligns your actions with environmental values while being part of the solution to waste challenges.

How to Prepare Glass Items for Recycling

Can I recycle broken glass?

Broken glass

Broken glass is perfectly acceptable and actually mimics the first step of our recycling process. Our facility breaks all glass into small pieces called cullet anyway, so don’t worry about accidents—just place broken pieces safely in your bin to avoid cuts during handling.

Should I rinse out the glass containers?

Empty jam/jelly jar

No need to waste water! While rinsing may help prevent odors in your bin, it’s not necessary for our recycling process. Our facility’s fluidized bed dryer removes food residue and organic material during processing, so you can skip the washing and conserve this precious natural resource.

Should I remove any labels or lids?

Empty glass jars with lids

Labels can stay on—our equipment removes them during processing. However, please remove metal lids and caps and place them in your mixed recycling bin instead. Our facility separates remaining caps and corks, but we can’t sort them by material type, so removing them helps ensure they get properly recycled.
