Glass can be recycled endlessly with no loss in quality. Making products from recycled glass consumes 40% less energy than using raw materials. For every six tons of recycled glass used, a ton of carbon dioxide emissions is prevented.
Glass recycling creates more local jobs than landfilling. It helps extend landfill life, keeping sanitation costs lower. Over a ton of natural resources are conserved for every ton of glass recycled.
As a local family-owned company, Momentum Recycling is committed to helping communities move toward zero waste. Our glass recycling facility is the only one of its kind in Utah. We process glass locally, providing direct benefits to Utah’s economy.

Still unsure if your glass is recyclable? – Please contact us for assistance, we’re happy to help!
A: While rinsing helps prevent odors in your home, it’s not required. Not washing containers helps conserve water. Our facility is equipped to handle residue during processing.
A: Empty containers and remove lids andcorks. You don’t need to remove labels—our processing facility handles that for you. Lids and caps should be placed in your regular mixed recycling bin.
A: Yes, broken glass is perfectly acceptable. In fact, breaking is the first step in our recycling process. Broken glass is processed into cullet that feels like sand.
Q: Why a separate collection bin for glass? Can’t glass just go in the mixed recycling?
A: Salt Lake County’s Material Recycling Facility cannot properly sort and process glass mixed with other recyclables. Glass breaks easily, creating sharp fragments that pose safety risks to handlers. When small glass shards mix with other recyclables, they devalue those materials.
Separate collection ensures over 95% of collected glass is effectively recycled. This maximizes the environmental and economic benefits of glass recycling.
Q: Is there a contract?
A: No. The service is month-to-month, so you only need to provide a thirty (30) day notice.
Q: How do I pay for services?
A: The monthly service fees are billed monthly via your existing Salt Lake City Corp utility bill.
Q: Can I subscribe to the service and pay with a credit card?
A: Most Salt Lake City residents are billed through their utility bill. Contact Momentum Recycling for alternative payment options.
Q: Can I have two (2) bins?
A: Yes – you can add a 2nd bin for an additional $4.12/month. To add a bin to your account, please contact us.
Q: Is glass collection affected by holidays?
A: Holidays often don’t affect our residential glass collection. Just set out your bins as usual and keep the glass coming! We will reach out to you if any schedules need to be adjusted for the holiday.
Q: Can I replace a stolen or missing container?
A: Yes, contact Momentum Recycling directly if your glass recycling container is missing or damaged.
Q: What if I’m not sure if my glass is recyclable?
A: Contact Momentum Recycling’s customer service team for assistance. They’re happy to help determine if specific glass items can be recycled.
