What is a Diversion Report?
It is a document that outlines the total material that an organization has diverted from the landfill.
Measuring the amount of materials recycled (like glass, cardboard, paper, plastic and metals) or digested (like food waste) is a way to quantify the positive impact that an organization is making on the environment.
How are the reports calculated?
Momentum Recycling incorporates 10+ years of diversion data along with routinely audited container weights to produce the most accurate diversion data possible for your organization. Below is a high-level overview of how these calculations are made.
Step #1
When servicing your location, a Momentum Recycling team member observes and records the fill rate of each recycling bin they service.
Step #2
The recycled volume is added to your recycling service history and converted to weight.
Step #3
The total recycling weight is converted into its equivalency in metric tons of carbon dioxide using the U.S. E.P.A.’s Waste Reduction Model (WARM) tool.
Step #4
Using the U.S. E.P.A.’s Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator, the carbon dioxide equivalent is converted into other interesting energy metrics (like pounds of coal burned, or # of cellphones charged).
